Rear Quarter Glass

No leaks at last....

Well it's Sunday and I figured what the heck. Time to do the glass. The removal of the glass from the 85 was easy. As you can see I only had duct tape holding it in. For all yall true rednecks out there,(and you know who you are..) This would be normal, but I just had to do it the right way. I got the rubber molding out of my 82 so the price was right for me. After I took out the glass I still had to remove the left over window sealant that was originally used. To do this I used a razor blade and some alcohol. I put the rubber seal around the glass first and then I put some windshield sealant in the window channel. I can only assume that it is needed cause it was there to start with. Then I slid the window into the front grove first and used a small screwdriver to work the rubber edges over the metal lip. I got all the way down to the rear of the car, about two inches left, and couldn't get the lip over. It was a really tight spot. I ended up taking the window back out and this time inserting it from the rear of the car. By doing this I had more room to get the rubber seal in because it is not quite as tight towards the top area. After I finished getting the seal in I used a rubber mallet to gently tap around the edge of the window so as to seat the rubber. I then got some kitchen soap and used it to get the window frame in. I just lubed up the seal and used the rubber mallet again. For both windows it took me about 1.5 hours. I think if I would have know a few shortcuts it would have taken of of the total time. I hope this article helps someone out there.
